Mr. Englade performed a super-human feat when he wrote this book. His clear and rightly ordered presentation of the all too-many convoluted events of this horrific story must have been aided by divine intervention. You'll see what I mean as you read the book. But I will admit that I hated the book because the ending showed us no justice whatsoever given to the most evil character of all, David Sconce.But do not despair, there's good news! I strongly dislike to give anyone who put so much time, effort and research into a book a sour review, but I was pretty disappointed with this book. I have read many true crime stories that were not yet resolved, but not only did it feel as though there was little resolution in this story, but also that the author should have either waited to write the book or tried to at least tie up some lose ends. The story is compelling and deserves to be told, but I came away scratching my head wondering if there were more unanswered questions than answered ones.Although I feel that the author should have waited to tell this story I do have an appreciation for him and would like to read other material, but I feel that the strory itself was infuriating and unresolved.
If you haven't read the book, don't read my review, spoilers ahead ........... I cannot believe these people got off how they did. Makes me furious just to imagine it, and I have to think the final judge was paid off, he all but gave them a 'get out of jail free card' actually, he did give them one, all of them. They abused corpses over years to what a horror movie wouldn't even imagine to show, stole, murdered, list goes on, and so do they, free and happy living their lives while their victims families live with the horror of what they did.
A very scary story about.a man who had no limit; who.thought.he could do anything The judge who let him off was. also scaryAngood book and it is interesting.
Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction. Such is the case of David Sconce & the saga of Lamb's Funeral Home. I vaguely remembered reading bits & pieces (no pun intended) about this case, or hearing my mother talk about it in the mid-90s... None of that prepared me for the utterly bizarre story that unfolds within the pages of this book.If you're a true crime fan, death hag, or enjoy things that are strange, macabre & oddly fascinating, you'll probably want to read this.My one complaint is that it felt tediously long in places, especially toward the end. Also, the kindle version isn't updated to include the fact that David apparently violated his parole a couple years ago —he had possession of a firearm. I wish we had more info as to how it all ended & where the family is today.
The story started out good, but , (for me, at least) quickly fell off. It covered the court proceedings in detail. We all know how the story ends, so it's never a real surprise. I like the more personal side of the story. The court side of the story is so boring. I read about half, and thumbed thru the rest of it.
This family makes the Manson family look sane. They believe they are above the law and aren't affected by their grotesque doings at all! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the epilogue was repetitious of what was told previously in the book. A good read, will look for more books from this author.
Very absorbing story about greed and personal vendettas in the funeral home business. Some very shocking revelations about what actually changed funeral homes from family-oriented service businesses to huge corporate franchises with little or no humanity in its ranks. An eye opener.
