Grade 8 Up—Harrington promises to reveal the most powerful law in the universe that teens can then use to "create the life of their dreams." He calls it the "law of attraction." He goes on to promote believing in oneself and following one's passions as a way to find fame and fortune. Thinking positive thoughts is all well and good, but when the author writes that optimistic thinking will clear up pimples or that avoiding news coverage about current events (because it will only attract bad thoughts) will keep you healthy and on the right track, it puts the credibility of this self-help guide in doubt. Then Harrington writes that whatever happens to you is a result of what you think about. "Victims of tragedy didn't ask for their fate (and they totally didn't deserve it). They probably didn't even know they were capable of attracting stuff. But still, there's an attraction. And that's because the law of attraction operates whether you know about it or not. People who don't know THE SECRET are attracting by default." This is cruel advice to give to an adolescent. If a 13-year-old who is being abused reads this, will he think that the abuse is his fault because he attracted it? What about a 17-year-old whose boyfriend hits her? Did she attract the violence? Let me start off by saying that I think it is a great thing that the makers of the secret wrote a book for teens on the law of attraction. This book can be read by someone of all ages. The two techniques that interested me were the check writing and scripting for changing your life in a joyful manner. However, the reason why I give this book four stars instead of five stars is because of the section on relationships. Yes, it is true that self-love and self-esteem is imporant in attracting loving people in your life. However, saying that one's thoughts attract back how their parents are treating them is excluding the fact that some kids get abused by their parents regardless of how respectful and loving they may be to them. The author of this book means well and has a healthy and happy relationship with their children. However, not every parent gives their children the love and encouragement they so deserve through the growing years and this book could include more information for a teenager that may be enduring abuse on how to escape. Also, telling an abused teenager that their thoughts attracted the physical and emotional abuse from their parents does more harm than good. Telling them just to use their thoughts to change their parents behavior is downright dangerous. If you or someone you know is enduring abuse please call this hotline: 1'800'799'SAFE (7233). For any survivors of abuse (whether teenager or adult) that got away from their parents please know that spiritually you are not alone. If you are a survivor of abuse and are considering whether or not to read this book I would first recommend that you either read Living with Joy by Sanaya Roman or Ask Your Guides by Sonia Choquette and then read the Secret to Teen Power. However, because of the positive uplifting stories contained in this book and helpful techniques such as the scripting method to attract more loving relationships, I still rate it four stars. I would just recommend that any survivors of abuse might benefit from first turning to any of the Sanaya Roman or Sonia Choquette books and then read "The Secret to Teen Power.
This is the same message and teaching as the original, adult book of, "The Secret," ...only spoken in a mildly more youthful manner. I found out that it was great for ME, a middle-aged man, to have a slightly different approach or teaching on this message on the Law of Attraction to fill out the message for me, presented in the first book! I took advantage of listening to it, for myself, before I sent it on to it's intended recipient, my 13 year old nephew! Everything feels good and natural about these teachings!
I think it could and would help any troubled teen if you just get them to listen to it. In my case that didn't work. Got it for my friends daughter who is 14 and out-of-controll. But I don't believe she ever listen to the CDs. It is exactly like the Secret CDs for grown-ups except it uses the right language and examples for a teenagers life. Wish I would have had that advise myself when I was that young. You can bring the water to the horse but you can not force it to take a bath... Good Luck!
I sent this to my nephew and bet him he wouldn't read it and do what it said. He took the bet and as turned his life around. It's still a work in progress but his life is getting better and better each day.
I know the original book well an this one is the best for teens. I loved it myself before I gave it to my grand children.
This is uplifting to young teens experiencing a new chapter in life. I bought it for my step daughter who is entering high school in August and dealing with some life changing issues.
Im a Guidance Counselor. I love the message behind The Secret. I bought this book for a couple of my selected Middle School Students to read. It seems like an easy way for a younger student to get the message about The Secret since the original book, The Secret, is written more for adults. It is a quick read for my better students.

Great positive book for my 13 year old boy. When reading he would come down each night and practice philosophies and approaches he learned in the book. Highly recommend for girl or boy 10-13.
