Here's the synopsis: Archie Bunker battles Fiend using Mel Gibson movie for months in a christian ego-fest of death defying crucifix bending, blood on walls and poltergeists polka. This is a self-glorification piece about Dad, and I don't mean the heavenly Father. This man is the pitbull from hell pretending to be god-fearing yet there is nothing god-fearing about his brash and abusive behavior. Yes, the demon finally left but was hardly defeated, The demon destroyed far more than he suffered, and most likely left in the end from the hellish torture of having to watch a Mel Gibson Passion of Christ movie for 7 months on an endless loop. In that respect the demon had an admirable fortitude against boredom and Hollywood. The author continually refers to the entity as a "thing" which it is not, it was created by God, who is upstaged by feeble priests, holy water, crucifixes, rosary beads, two psychics, a Mel Gibson movie and all manner of ignorant religious superstition, giving the demon license by God to remain and harass. Yet the author doesn't care as much about God, as he seems to care about his ego, sacrificing his children's welfare in the bargain. It is more about christian child abuse at the hands of a Rambo christian. who was arrested for assault and battery upon his own son, and that's the least of the problems. Mainly, the book justifies those who avoid christianity altogether, which did zip in this case to protect the children from this ego-maniac who blamed everything on the "entity". The devil, if you wish to personify him as such, won. And by a large margin. His 16 yr old daughters' pregnancy? Yep, devil did it. His arrest for child brutality? Yep, devil did it. His wife's institutionalization for being mentally off kilter? Yep, devil did it. His kids being institutionalized for insanity? Yep, devil did it. There are demons and Satan, and Lucifer. But Lucifer and Satan are NOT the same; they are brothers with differing destinies. Satanists make the same mistake in reverse. Satan was named Sataniel prior to his fall, not Lucifer. The author quotes the Old Testament prohibition against consulting spiritists or psychics, yet the Roman Catholic priests in the book consult and use not one, but two repeatedly throughout the book, who call themselves intuitives to sidestep being branded as a witch. God, as the Father gets no mention, btw. Unfortunately, the innocent children were the ones who suffered the most from this christian ego-centric father's Rambo fight with said demon. His reckless endangerment of their welfare is abhorrent, whether considered in humanitarian or christian terms. This book should be required reading for those who fail to see religious pride for what it is, an evil equal to the evil of this demon. It becomes a battle not of who is holier, but who's the bigger bully. It exposes the author's ego as a god of his own making, complete with Catholic accessories and not one bit of concern for the welfare of those who were casualties of his ego, namely his entire family. God save his Ego. That's what the book is about, with a supporting cast of bent or broken crucifixes, beads, trinkets, psychic readings, Mel Gibson movie, (that he plays for 7 months 24/7, I kid you not). But the main character: His Almighty Ego.

Book was well written. Yeah, there were some typos and grammatical errors, but it was easy to decipher what the writer was trying to convey. The story is spooky and did not read at home. I read at the gym while on the treadmill. The author doesn't really go into much detail. He writes about what happened but doesn't go into depth. Still, he provided enough detail to make your imagination run wild. What I didn't like had nothing to do with the book. I can understand why the Cranmer family stayed. But I had a problem with the daughter/husband. Knowing full well what the family was experiencing, I would expect for the daughter's husband to get her out of that environment. Instead, they take up residence in the home. Fortunately, they were able to get out, but Mr. Cranmer paid for their new residence. It just bothered me why this man (son-in-law) was so dependent on his father-in-law for shelter/money.

After rereading this book, it was even better the second time around! The author creates a malignant atmosphere that only intensifies, as this "creep" has free reign of the house and taunts its inhabitants. Rigorous, combative tactics are employed, but not until virtually every household member has felt its black presence. In all its chaos, the "kicker" of the story, however, was its ending; here the author reveals why destiny originally brought him to this house... Twisting the supernatural, religion, and actual history, I found this to be one hell of a story!!

I've passed this house in the Brentwood suburb of Pittsburgh at least 100 times and always loved the great columns and lovely carport. Such a great street and friendly neighborhood, but I NEVER knew the history of this house. Even if Mr. Cranmer has dramatized some of these events for narrative flow, the story is still a compelling one. A classic example of evil begetting even more evil.

Finally, an insightful and honest accounting of what demonic infestation, oppression and obsession is ALL about. I have grown weary of all the erroneous tv shows and internet information which serves only to glorify superstition and lead the foolish to the gates of hell. This book is honest, straightforward and accurate.I would recommend this book to all who are in need of hope. Well done, Mr. Cranmer.

A nurse I work with 4/5 days a week lives a couple doors down from Mr. Cranmer, and was there during the events of the book. I bought this on pre-order because I am only a couple streets up from there and when she found out about the book she wanted to read it as well. After we both finished it she recounted the things she remembered from then and shined a rather poor light on the author. The book itself was entertaining to read, if you can push past the pretty overt political themes. It seemed to put a lot of focus on Mr. Cranmer's political career in the area, rather than the happenings in the house, and the wrap up left me feeling like there was something lacking. As this is based upon a supposedly true story (I can't say it is or isn't what this family went through) There really isn't room for a continuation (Thank you for not pulling an Amittyville here). Would I read this again? Yes I would. There are always little details I miss in stories that may make or break the yarn for me in the future.

I have read many previous reviews of this book stating that they feel the author spent too much time on himself and his accomplishments. Others also said they felt he had a big ego. I would like to say that it takes a lot of self confidence and maybe a big ego as well to battle the demonic, especially for the length of time this man went through this ordeal. I felt that the book was well written, informative and certainly worth its price. Pray that you never encounter anything like what Mr. Cramner did. I had a small taste of that sort of evil and that was enough for me. God bless.
