This step diet is still relevant today 10 years after I first bought it . In fact I have bought this book 8 times over ten years giving it to friends and family and replacing my copy ( I lost 2 copies in that time ) . It is so easy to follow - the only big commitment on my part I found was attempting to achieve 12,000 or more steps a day , which I found quite hard sometimes . So every few years I start the Step Diet , get to my goal weight then stop and put it on again or more and then decide to start it up again . This Step Diet is a lot easier than counting calories , I can tell you . And putting on the pedometer does make me more active overall as well.I do agree with the other reviewers - just ditch the free pedometer and invest in a good one - I still prefer the pedometers that you either wear on your pants / belt or the new pocket pedometers ( I have the Brilliant G-Sensor 3D sensor Pocket Pedometer ) as I feel they are more accurate than the ones you wear on your wrist .This is the only diet book that I recommend to friends and family wholeheartedly even after 10 years .

I have read the other reviews and yes the pedometer sent with the book is a piece of junk. After reading the other reviews I ordered the Omron HJ 112 pedometer. It is a great pedometer that gives you how many calories you have burned and how many steps you have taken. I have tried all the diets and yet this concept really changed my weight loss/maintenance regime. It really does work to just walk the 10,000 steps (or more) every day. The weight came off and it makes maintaining my weight easier. I have found that if I can't walk everyday I really miss it. I walk in the rain, sun and snow. You just have to commit to it. This just seemed so easy to me and it was. I did this with slowly changing my eating habits and I couldn't be happier. I had a goal to loose just 1 pound a month so I wouldn't be stressed about "dieting" and it worked. I have lost 30 pounds in 30 months. When I started this I said this was my job to get healthy and that is what I continue to think everyday. You go to work everyday so why not commit to getting healthier everyday.

This book gave me the incentive I needed to get moving. Since I started I've increased my steps from around 6,000 per day to 15,000+. I've never felt better. I have more energy and the pounds are starting to melt away. Now I feel really down on the days when I don't get my walk in.The authors give many painless ways to increase your step count without taking any additional time from your already hectic day.I also like the way the program is structured so that changes are gradual and easy to fit into your routine. You're not trying to overhaul your whole life at once. The steps are simple and doable. The pedometer that accompanies the book is cheap and badly made. Spend a few more dollars and invest in an Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer and follow this program. Your health and waistline will thank you for it.

It has been very helpful for me trying to figure out how to lose weight and keep it off forever. UPDATE:Since I got this book in 2013, I have now lost almost 30 pounds. I have also learned to change my eating habits, however I was not able to walk for a few weeks and even though I had changed my eating habits, I put a couple of pounds back on. It has become clear to me, that walking those 10,000 steps a day is really important to your health. I have a friend who has diabetes and she was walking with me, and was losing weight, until she started having some problems with her hip. Her physician was getting ready to put her on insulin, however. while walking, her glucose level dropped a lot and he didn't have to. Now, that she isn't walking, she has put all of her weight back on, and her sugar is way up. I am certainly glad that I purchased this book and hope that others will just start walking. IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR LIFE!

I am a 60-year old woman who has dieted and exercised most of my adult life. Lately, though I have found it difficult to keep my weight down (aging, I suppose). I bought this book looking for a new direction. It has opened my eyes to what I have been missing. As I said I exercise everyday usually 30-40 minutes, but my job is in front of a computer and I sit most of the day. Like others have said it was shocking to see how little I actually moved besides my exercise time. These small, but very effective changes that I made have totally changed my attitude and my weight! However, the pedometer that comes with the book is terrible (actually, it didn't even work. I had to return it). I highly recommend spending a little more money and purchasing the Omron HJ-112, which you can get from Amazon.com. It is great! I promise you that if you follow this program the way that it is drawn up, you will be amazed like I was. I also agree with many who have reviewed this book...the megasteps were very confusing.

Excellent book! I recommend this book to anyone who is seriously considering losing weight and wanting to keep it off. I have lost 30 pounds in 6 months and it has come following exactly what the book has recommended.

I received my book and was anxious to see what the Step Diet involved. After being so frustrated with many other attempts to drop about 20 pounds, I was excited as I read the theory behind this diet and felt that it's one that I could really understand and carry through with. As I went to put the pedometer to use to determine my 7-day average steps, I was very disappointed to find that it wouldn't work. I tried moving it to different locations on my body and nothing worked. The reset button didn't produce anything at all in the view window; I will have to try to buy a new battery to see if that is the problem. If it's been on the shelf for a couple years, it may need a fresh one. Not really happy that I chose to not purchase a different pedometer as I had first intended to do.
